When it comes to keeping grocery bills low, Lidl often emerges as a top contender. One regular shopper has revealed that their most-purchased item from the supermarket is a coffee pod costing just £2.89 per pack of 20.
The Bellarom espresso pods, compatible with older-style Nespresso machines, are described as full-bodied, velvety, and ideal for a morning flat white. At 14p per pod, they undercut competitors like Starbucks, where a pack of 10 costs £4.15 at Sainsbury's.
The shopper, who has tried numerous brands including Lavazza and Starbucks, finds Lidl's pods consistently superior. Other supermarket own-brand pods are often weak and watery, but Lidl's offer a rich taste that rivals more expensive options.
Even when buying in bulk on Amazon, the price per pod is higher—15p for a pack of 100 compared to Lidl's 14p. The shopper notes that while pods are not the most environmentally friendly, they plan to switch to a bean-to-cup machine in the future and will try Lidl's coffee beans first.
Available in varieties like Ristretto and Lungo, these pods are a budget-friendly staple for coffee lovers looking to save without compromising on quality.
