Lidl's £4.99 trousers rival £110 Sweaty Betty design

Lidl's autumn clothing sale, launching Sunday October 18, includes a pair of £4.99 Esmara Ladies' Beige Loungewear Trousers that share similar features with designs from Sweaty Betty, Zara and John Lewis.

The trousers are described online by Lidl as offering a "superior fit" with a wide leg and "contrasting stripe down the sides". They will be available in sizes small to large, as part of the Middle of Lidl range, which also includes seasonal clothing for men, women and children.

The beige trousers resemble Sweaty Betty's Lightweight Linear Striped Wide Leg Trouser, normally priced at £110 but reduced to £41.50. That version features a similar athletic stripe down the legs. Other plain wide-leg trousers are available from Zara for £26 and Mango (sold via John Lewis) for £23.99, but these lack the athletic stripe.

Lidl will also sell a navy blue version of the same trousers for £4.99, which has been said to look similar to £189 M&S and £45 Next alternatives.

Other items in the sale

The Esmara clothing sale arrives in-store on Sunday alongside a range of garden items. Shoppers may still be able to claim recently released items that have not sold out since Thursday (October 15), including homeware, kitchen gadgets, accessories and pet products.

New clothing items from Sunday include men's padded gilets (£8.99), half zip jumpers (£9.99), joggers (£9.99), zip-up hoodies (£11.99), ribbed vests in three packs (£5.99) and boxers in three packs (£4.49). Ladies' items include chunky knit jumpers (£6.99), fluffy socks in two pairs (£1.99), vest tops in three packs (£4.99) and ribbed briefs with lace in five packs (£4.99). Patterned adult socks in two pairs (£1.99) are also available with designs including fox, pretzel, croissant, duck, jellyfish, dog with candy cane, cherry and banana, gingerbread and astronaut.
