Lidl's upcoming middle aisle sale includes a women's coat priced at £39.99 that bears a strong resemblance to a high-end puffer currently on sale for £276.50. The Esmara Ladies' Down Padded Jacket, described as "extra warm," will arrive in stores on Sunday, November 15.
The coat is available in olive green or black, in sizes small to large. Lidl says the jacket is wind- and water-resistant, with a full-length drawstring for comfort in colder months. It features a "drawstring hood and concealed storm flap," "side pockets" fastened with press studs, and zipped inner pockets.
Comparison with Sweaty Betty
The "relaxed fit" jacket is similar in appearance to the Sweaty Betty Nimbus Longline Waterproof Puffer, which is reduced from £395 to £276.50. That coat is available in black and olive, plus four other colours, and is also described as waterproof and windproof, with a "warm down filling" combined with feathers.
Sweaty Betty claims: "[This coat was] tested to withstand over 16,000mm of water pressure, the Nimbus Puffer keeps you dry in even the wettest conditions. [It is] 100% recycled fabric, storm cuffs, fleece-lined pockets and a fixed hood with an innovative lockable drawcord."

The fashion sale includes a limited selection of items for men and women. These include the Esmara Ladies' Padded Coat at £19.99, the Esmara Men's Puffer Jacket at £11.99, and several other items such as fleece pyjamas at £6.49, a chunky knit cardigan at £8.99, and men's joggers at £8.99.
A separate children's event arrives in stores on Thursday, November 12, featuring coats, shoes and more for little ones, with sizes ranging from two months to age eight. Items include the Lupilu Kids' Sweatshirt at £2.99 each (any two for £5), Lupilu Baby Joggers at £2.99 per set, and Crivit Kids' Winter Boots at £7.99 per pair.
