Lidl shoppers are praising the supermarket's own-brand Jaffa Cakes, claiming they taste "much better" than the well-known McVitie's version. The conversation began on Reddit after one shopper confessed they had discovered the supermarket stocks a host of tasty products that can often be "cheaper and tastier" than their branded counterparts.

The discussion kicked off when a social media user posted: "What own-brand items do you say Lidl does as well as the original or even better? Ever since I had the cheap as s*** jam and it tasted just as good as Hartley's (which I grew up with), or the caramelised biscuits, which tasted just as good as Biscoff, I've been considering that I could probably save more money on other products." They added: "I've been eyeing some of the chocolate and hazelnut spreads."
The post quickly drew responses, and while several suggestions were put forward, one product appeared to steal the show. One user said: "If you like the M&S Jaffa Cakes, Lidl ones are very similar. Well actually, they're very similar whether you like them or not." Another enthusiastic shopper added: "I agree with this. I LOVE Lidl's Jaffa Cakes!"

A third replied: "As multiple people have said on here, the Jaffa Cakes! They're much denser than the branded ones, and the chocolate is an actual thick shell. The cake is like a denser, moist cake with the orange filling. I can easily eat a whole tray in about five minutes, if that." For those who may not be aware, McVitie's first introduced Jaffa Cakes to the UK market back in 1927. The beloved treats were named after Jaffa oranges, which gave the iconic orange jam centre its distinctive flavour. Since then, numerous variations have popped up on shelves across the country, with supermarkets and other brands all putting their own spin on the classic recipe.

According to a growing number of shoppers, Lidl's version appears to be a clear crowd-pleaser, with many won over by the taste. On the Lidl website, it states Tower Gate Orange Jaffa Cakes are available in store now. The price is currently not available online.
