Lidl cuts Silentnight heated throw to £24.99 in Black Friday sale
Lidl cuts Silentnight heated throw to £24.99 in sale

Lidl's upcoming Black Friday sale, which begins on Thursday, November 12, will feature the Silentnight Luxury Heated Throw reduced from £44.99 to £24.99, offering shoppers a £20 saving on a winter essential designed to cut energy costs.

The budget supermarket said the sale, described as its "biggest ever Black Friday sale", will land in the Middle Aisle of stores across the UK. The 'super-soft' fleece throw is positioned as a practical alternative to turning up central heating as temperatures drop and energy costs remain a concern for families.

Key features of the heated throw

Lidl says the throw offers "ultimate luxury" and that "the super soft fleece is great for taking the chill away - stay cosy and warm whilst curling up on the sofa or in bed." The product features fast heat-up, nine heat settings, overheat safety protection, and auto shut-off after two hours.

It is machine-washable, with Lidl noting it helps "keep your blanket feeling fresh and hygienic." The throw has a power consumption of 100W, measures 120 x 160cm, and comes with a three-year warranty.

Martin Lewis and MSE guidance on electric blankets

Experts, including Martin Lewis and his team at Money Saving Expert (MSE), often advise consumers to "heat the human, not the home" - a term Lewis coined - encouraging the use of targeted, low-energy gadgets instead of heating empty rooms. The MSE team's official guide ranks electric blankets as one of the most efficient and cost-effective ways to stay warm on a tight budget.

The MSE team calculated that a standard 100W electric blanket costs just 2.6p per hour to run, amounting to roughly £1.29 per week if used for seven hours daily. Commenting on the guide, Martin Lewis said: "We're trying to help provide some options and information for those that may need to drastically cut down on energy usage due to financial desperation and some help for others who may want to do it out of a commitment to green issues."

Savings and safety considerations

With 100W power consumption, the throw costs approximately 2.6p per hour on its highest setting, meaning an eight-hour evening or work-from-home day would cost around 21p. The built-in timer shuts off power after two hours to prevent wasted electricity.

The MSE team includes safety warnings, advising shoppers to buy blankets with built-in timers and overheat protection. They also caution against leaving homes completely unheated during freezing temperatures, as this can lead to frozen pipes, dampness, or structural mould. The NHS advises heating homes to at least 18°C (65°F) during winter to protect health, as lower temperatures can increase the risk of respiratory illnesses, heart attacks, and strokes. For households with infants, guidelines recommend a range of 16°C to 20°C in sleeping rooms to reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). The deal is available at Lidl stores nationwide while stocks last.
