Lidl has launched a new clothes airer priced at £9.99 that can accommodate up to two washing machine loads, undercutting comparable products at B&Q and Tesco. The 18m Clothes Airer is available in the 'Middle of Lidl Aisle' at all branches nationwide while supplies last.
The supermarket chain, which operates over 1,000 sites across the UK, describes the product as a "weather-resistant and durable" solution. Its launch comes as people in Scotland increasingly dry clothes indoors due to rare dry weather conditions.
Design and Features
Unlike conventional tiered airers with a vertical structure, this model uses width to dry laundry. It features a collapsible design that extends to 180cm when fully opened but folds flat for storage, making it suitable for small properties.
Key features include space for up to two washing machine loads (8kg each), a total drying length of 18m, a child safety lock, and a maximum load of 17kg. The tubular steel frame is weather-resistant with floor-friendly caps, and the product comes with a 3-year warranty.
Comparison with Rivals
B&Q stocks a similar Foldable Clothes Airer for £16.99, described as offering up to 18 metres of drying space with 22 wide bars. Tesco sells a Clothes Airer Drying Rack for £21.99, which the retailer says is "almost two meters wide" and folds for easy storage.
Both alternatives bear a striking resemblance to the Lidl version. However, one notable difference remains: unlike Lidl, both Tesco and B&Q offer home delivery for these products.
