Jones' Crumpets, the artisan crumpet brand known for its flavoured varieties, is opening its first permanent cafe in Notting Hill this autumn. The move follows nine years of pop-ups, farmer's market stalls and online sales.
A decade of crumpet-making
Founded in 2017, the brand began as a supper club before becoming a wholesale supplier to restaurants. Its crumpets are already stocked in London shops and delis including Superette, La Fromagerie, Supermarket of Dreams and Parsnips, and are sold each weekend at Primrose Hill Food Market, Marylebone Farmer's Market, Queen's Park Farmer's Market and Kerb Francis Road.
The new cafe will offer a selection of flavoured crumpets, as well as sweet and savoury crumpet-based dishes.
Price and reception
The crumpets are priced from £7.50 for a pack of five classic ones, rising to £9 for five flavoured options such as dark chocolate, double cheese, or cheese and chive. Online reviews have called them 'the best' crumpets ever tasted, with TikTok comments describing them as a 'taste sensation', 'irresistible', '10/10' and 'significantly better than Warburtons'. Some critics, however, have labelled them 'gentrified crumpets', with the price called 'daylight robbery' and the taste 'average' and 'oily'.
The writer of the original article, having tried them, confirmed the classic crumpets are 'something special', with a crisp exterior and fluffy interior, and recommended the dark chocolate variety, which contains a layer of 55 percent Belgian dark chocolate that becomes molten when toasted.
