Apple's most powerful iPhones have dropped significantly in price ahead of its new 'Surprise and Shine' launch event. Speculation is mounting that the tech giant is gearing up to reveal its iPhone 18 series at the September 9th event, while the buzz circulates that the current iPhone range has plummeted in price.
Discounts at giffgaff and Sky Mobile
At giffgaff, there are substantial discounts on the iPhone 17 Pro Max, with up to £100 cut from the price. The 256GB model is cut from £1289 to £1189. Combined with giffgaff's unlimited data SIM for £14 (was £25), this works out at £46.34 a month across a 36-month contract, as well as a £25 upfront fee, but with a small catch.
The increased demand has seen stock go quickly, so the Cosmic Orange and Deep Blue are now out of stock. So the deal just remains on the Silver mode.
Meanwhile, prices are even lower at Sky Mobile, where the iPhone 17 Pro is available at £31.50 per month on a 36-month contract, plus £12 upfront. However, this only includes a modest 100MB data allowance, with larger plans available at extra cost, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Purchase outright options
For those looking to purchase outright, Amazon has reduced the iPhone 17 Pro to £999 and the Pro Max to £1,099 (was £1,199). The Pro models are Apple's most powerful iPhones to date, driven by the latest A19 Pro chip that makes it roughly 50% faster than the iPhone 15 Pro.
They also boast an impressive battery life, delivering up to 37 hours of video playback on the 6.3" or 6.9" Super Retina XDR display. The cameras have likewise been upgraded with a 48MP Pro Fusion system to capture ultra-high-resolution photos and videos in 4K Dolby Vision.

There is also a suite of cutting-edge AI features with Apple Intelligence and a robust aluminium frame with Ceramic Shield that's three times more scratch-resistant than the 15 Pro. Technology Editor David Snelling penned a glowing review for the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max when they launched last year, awarding them a perfect five stars.
"The new iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max pack quite a punch," he said. "They finally look different, get improved processing, longer battery life and will keep cooler under pressure.
"The cameras are superb, the screens are sharp, and they offer bonus extras such as professional video recording. If you love Pro devices, this is definitely a year to upgrade as the changes are pretty dramatic over previous models."
He did, however, raise concerns over the price, stating: "Just remember that these are now more expensive and the cheaper iPhone 17 has had a major upgrade this year. There's no question that 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are the ultimate iPhones, just be prepared to pay a premium to have one in your pocket."
