New pictures and video reveal the interior of Bury Market's much-anticipated new food hall as construction work continues on site.
The new Casewells flexi-hall will be a place for people to eat, drink and watch performances, Bury council has said. It forms part of a £33m investment into the world-famous market.
Work is continuing on site, but new footage and photos released by Bury council show the progress of the two-floor, 22,000sq ft venue. When complete, the hall is expected to boast 12 food and retail units, a central bar and a stage.
Named after first black pudding shop
The hall has been named after the first shop in Bury said to have sold black pudding. When it opens, it will be run by Midlands Events Bury Ltd (MEB), who are also behind the Queens Market in Rhyl.
Bury council hopes the space will increase footfall into the town centre and enhance the local food offering.
Mixed response from the public
Response to the project has been mixed, however. Some have said the new hall 'looks fabulous', adding they 'can't wait' for it to open.
Meanwhile, others have questioned the need for another food venue and said they hope it will not take trade away from existing Bury Market businesses. Some have branded it a 'waste of money' and said they had hoped it would replace the indoor market which has been shut since 2023 after Raac was found in the roof.
Opening expected in autumn
Bury council has said the new Casewells building is expected to open in the autumn.
