IKEA returns to Aberdeen with new city centre Plan & Order Point

IKEA has opened its new Plan & Order Point in Aberdeen, with eager shoppers queuing outside before the doors opened at 10am on Wednesday, October 14. The store, located in the Union Square car park, takes over the former Decathlon unit and is the only IKEA in the city.

What the new store offers

Spanning two floors, the city centre branch uses IKEA's smaller Plan & Order Point format, designed to provide bespoke kitchen, bedroom and storage planning services. Customers can browse 18 different kitchens, from pantry designs to storage solutions, and 16 different bespoke wardrobes tailored to every space and size.

Alongside a home furnishing planning area, there is a curated range of around 600 homewares and small furniture items available for immediate takeaway, including the Billy Bookcase (RRP £35) and the ALEX Drawer Unit (RRP £55).

Free planning appointments and delivery options

A key feature is the ability to book an appointment with a planning specialist free of charge, or use in-store self-service tools to design custom solutions. The store also offers a selection of lower priced products for every budget, following the retailer's recent price cuts on 435 of its iconic products by up to 25 percent.

The smaller format allows customers to order from the entire IKEA range, with free next day collection or home delivery, plus a collection area for online purchases and a returns service for any IKEA products.

Reactions and background

Kevin Coventry, Market Manager at IKEA, said: “It was fantastic to open the doors of our brand-new Plan and Order Point in Aberdeen this morning, and to welcome our first customers inside.”

Douglas Lumsden, MP for Aberdeen South, said: “I am delighted to welcome IKEA’s new Plan and Order Point in the city centre. It is fantastic to see a global brand like IKEA strengthening its presence in Aberdeen.” Jack Middleton, MSP for Aberdeen Central, added: “It's great to see IKEA's new Plan and Order Point opening in Union Square.”

The opening was attended by all 16 staff members, with shoppers queuing ahead of schedule. It is the fourth IKEA in Scotland, joining branches in Glasgow and Edinburgh, alongside a newly opened Plan & Order Point in Dundee.

In October 2025, the Daily Record reported that IKEA was closing its Order and Collection on Wellington Circle after 10 years, with the relocation to Union Square confirmed. Initially due to open on May 12, the opening was delayed. The move is part of IKEA's strategy to bring the brand closer to where people live, work and socialise.

The new store will open Monday to Friday 10am – 8pm and Saturday and Sundays 10am - 6pm.
