Ikea has announced a significant expansion of its discount scheme for thousands of workers across the United Kingdom, specifically targeting education and healthcare professionals. This new initiative, developed in collaboration with the savings platforms Discounts for Teachers and Health Service Discounts, increases the previous online-only offer to include in-store purchases, providing greater flexibility and savings opportunities.
Enhanced Savings for Essential Workers
Previously, eligible members could access a 4% discount on purchases made through the Ikea website. However, the updated offer now provides a boosted 6% discount, applicable both online and in physical stores. To avail of this discount, shoppers must sign into the relevant app—either Discounts for Teachers or Health Service Discounts—and scan their unique code at the checkout point. This streamlined process ensures that teachers, nurses, doctors, and other healthcare staff can easily benefit from reduced prices on a wide range of Ikea products.
Partnership Commitment to Recognising Dedication
Jen Haslam, Chief Revenue Officer at Discounts for Teachers and Health Service Discounts, expressed pride in bringing this enhanced Ikea discount to their members. She emphasised the vital role that teachers and healthcare workers play in society, stating that it is crucial their dedication is recognised in tangible ways. "Extending the saving to in-store purchases, alongside online, means members have more choice and flexibility to benefit from everyday savings," Haslam noted, highlighting the practical advantages of the expanded offer.
Nikos Koskinas, Retail Partnerships Manager at the same organisation, added that Ikea is a beloved brand among their members, making this exclusive saving a valuable addition. "This partnership reflects our ongoing commitment to securing strong, relevant deals that truly support education and healthcare professionals across the UK," Koskinas remarked, underscoring the strategic importance of the collaboration.
Context of Recent Ikea Service Changes
This discount expansion comes in the wake of other recent changes to Ikea's services. As of September 2025, the retailer introduced a £2 fee for click and collect services for shoppers who order items online and pick them up from Ikea branches. However, members of the Ikea Family loyalty scheme can still use this service for free, providing an incentive for customers to join the programme.
Details on Click and Collect Options
Ikea customers also have the option to collect orders from select Tesco car parks, DPD locations, or locker pick-up points. It is important to note that there is already a charge for this service if the spend falls below a certain threshold. For Ikea Family members, click and collect from a Tesco or self-serve locker is free when spending £100 or more, while the threshold is £60 from a DPD point. Non-members face fees ranging from £2 to £5 for these services.
An Ikea spokesperson explained the rationale behind these changes, stating, "We believe in transparent pricing and continue to invest in our services to expand our delivery options and click and collect locations to provide increased choice and convenience for our customers. To make our delivery and collection services financially sustainable, Click and Collect has seen the introduction of a £2 fee for non-IKEA Family members." The spokesperson further clarified that IKEA Family, which is free to join, offers members free collection across all Click and Collect options, including in-store collections and mobile pick-up points.
This combination of enhanced discounts for key workers and adjusted service fees reflects Ikea's ongoing efforts to balance customer benefits with operational sustainability, ensuring that its offerings remain relevant and supportive in the evolving retail landscape.
