Iceland has launched a new Toby Carvery frozen food range, and shoppers are "running" to buy the meals. Many think they make great alternatives to a homemade Sunday roast.
As the weather starts to get chillier, the allure of a meaty meal with lashings of gravy and plenty of potatoes is certainly real. But sometimes, you just can't be bothered to put in the effort it takes to peel all the carrots and make the gravy from scratch, and that's okay, because Iceland has got you covered.
Convenience and budget-friendly options
Rather than sweating over your hot stove, you can throw your food in the oven for 55 minutes and enjoy the company of your family, as opposed to having to be the designated chef. This is because the supermarket is selling some options that can help make Sundays a lot easier.
It's not the first time such meals have been drawn to people's attention either. Previously, someone revealed what it was like to tuck into the Iceland offerings.
Enter Iceland's latest innovation – a Toby Carvery range designed to transform Sunday lunch preparation. The inventive selection is said to offer both convenience and flavour.
Iceland has announced a two for £8.50 offer, meaning these meals aren't just simpler to prepare – they're considerably more budget-friendly too, particularly when compared to the escalating costs of traditional roast ingredients.
A typical adult meal at Toby Carvery restaurants costs between £11.49 and £16.49, with prices varying according to which day you dine. Location also influences pricing, with London and city-centre establishments generally charging towards the upper bracket.
What's in the range?
For those preferring Sunday dinner at home, Iceland's Toby Carvery collection delivers an intriguing alternative. The range features two distinctive options - a Toby Carvery Slow Cooked Beef Loaded Yorkie and a Toby Carvery Chicken and Stuffing Loaded Yorkie.
For those wanting to go all out, there's also a selection including 6 Little Pigs in Yorkshires, 10 Crispy Battered Pigs In Blankets, Hunters Pigs In Blankets Mac 'n' Cheese and a Slow Cooked Beef and Roasties Bake.
Instead of spending hours in the kitchen preparing everything from scratch, simply pop the main dishes in the oven for 55 minutes and you've got yourself a delicious roast dinner ready to serve.
How are they cooked?
Start by preheating your oven to Fan 180°C/Gas 6. Remove the outer packaging and pierce the film lid in several places.
Position on a baking tray towards the top of the oven for 40 minutes. Take off the film and continue cooking for a further 15 minutes, then allow to rest for a minute before serving.
Just be careful not to burn yourself on the hot food. Additionally, always refer to the packaging instructions as cooking times may differ between individual products.
What are people saying about the meals?
Beneath the announcement, one shopper commented they were "really looking forward to trying" the supermarket's roast dinner range.
"I'm really excited for this," another enthused. A third wrote: "Can't wait."
Another customer said: "Woohoo. Looking forward to this."
One more commented: "Oh yes, big Yorkshire dinners." Among other requests from customers is for the "potato hash from the breakfast menu," as fans would love the chance to prepare it at home.
