Iceland has launched a new food range tied to the upcoming series of BBC's Celebrity Traitors, and I tried several items to see which are worth buying. The range includes chocolate muffins, a jalapeno wheel, a jellybean spinner game, chewy sweets, and brownies – all designed for parties during the cosy TV season.
The Celebrity Traitors cast this year includes Amol Rajan, Bella Ramsey, James Acaster, James Blunt, Jerry Hall, Joanne McNally, Joe Lycett, Julie Hesmondhalgh, King Kenny, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Maya Jama, Michael Sheen, Miranda Hart, Myha'la, Professor Hannah Fry, Richard E. Grant, Rob Beckett, Romesh Ranganathan, Ross Kemp, Sebastian Croft, and Sharon Rooney.
The Muffins and the Jalapeno Wheel
The Traitors Chocolate Muffins 4 Pack, exclusive to Iceland, costs £4.50 and contains three chocolate muffins and one raspberry. I wasn't upset about the raspberry one – the filling was tasty, and at just over £1 per muffin, it's a decent deal.
The Round Table Jalapeno Wheel 12 Pack, also exclusive to Iceland, costs £5.00. It's a great concept, but as someone who loves spicy food, I wished there were more hot ones. Most people probably wouldn't agree, though.
The Jellybean Spinner Game and Chew Bag
The Traitors Jellybean Spinner Game – 100g, £2.50 – is perfect for parties because it never gets old. It's diabolical when you bite into a disgusting flavour. My first was curry, which tasted vile. My partner Joe got the chilli flavour and had to spit it out immediately. For £2.50, you can't go wrong unless you pick a grim flavour.
The Traitors Chew Bag – 120g, £1.50 – offers either sweet or sour fillings. The first one I tried was sour, which put me off. It's fun with friends, but I'd prefer the jellybean option because it feels more like a game than picking randomly from a bag of sweets.
The Brownies and Final Verdict
The Traitors Death by Chocolate Brownies 2 Pack, exclusive to Iceland, costs £2.50. These are some of the gooiest brownies I've ever tried, with white chocolate pieces inside. Iceland's website describes them as "Chocolate brownie with white chocolate pieces and white chocolate with caramel pieces topped with chocolate flavour icing, milk and cocoa compound and a sugar paste decoration."
Overall, the brownies were the highlight, but the raspberry muffin was the unexpected surprise. The jellybean spinner game is the best party option. The range is available now at Iceland stores.
