HMV Returns to Chelmsford with New Store Opening on Friday

HMV is opening a new store at Chelmsford's Meadows Shopping Centre on Friday, 26 June, marking the retailer's return to the city after falling into administration in 2018. The iconic entertainment brand will launch a 3,930 square foot outlet stocking over 20,000 products, including more than 3,000 vinyl albums and 5,500 films and TV shows on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD.

Return to Chelmsford After Administration

The new store represents a comeback for HMV in Chelmsford, following the closure of its previous location at the High Chelmer Shopping Centre in 2024 after more than two decades of trading. That store had hosted major music names, including Eurovision star Sam Ryder. HMV first entered administration in 2018 but has since recovered under new ownership.

Store Details and Product Range

The new unit will offer an extensive selection of pop culture merchandise, music, technology, and literature. Collectable items from franchises such as Star Wars, KPop Demon Hunters, and Funko POP will be available. The first 25 customers to make a purchase at the grand opening will receive an exclusive goodie bag packed with pop culture merchandise.

Statement from HMV Management

Phil Halliday, Managing Director at hmv and Fopp, said: "The search for a new home is over, and we couldn't be happier to bring hmv back to Chelmsford. The shop looks brilliant and is a testament to all the hard work the team have put into it over the past few weeks. With over 20,000 different products on offer, it has all the makings of a pop culture hub. We can't wait to welcome back customers on Friday 26th June to see all it has to offer!"

Additional Services and Opening Hours

Shoppers will be able to use the 'hmv delivers' service, ordering items not currently available in store for direct delivery to their door. The store's opening hours are standard retail hours, though specific times were not provided in the announcement.
