Glasgow's £4 toastie joint opens inside HillHead Bookclub

The Toast Office, a viral new toastie joint in Glasgow's West End, is serving £4 sandwiches with soup, making it a popular autumn lunch spot. Located inside HillHead Bookclub on Vinicombe Street, the pop-up has drawn crowds for its crisp, cheesy comfort food.

Menu and opening hours

Open seven days a week, The Toast Office pairs toasted sandwiches with a cup of soup from 12-4pm daily. It also offers a late night 'toastal service' from 9pm to 12am on Fridays and Saturdays. The menu features five fillings: classic cheese, posh ham and cheese, the mac, mushroom melt, and beef birria, with sandwiches starting at £4.50 or £4 for students. Soup options include tomato or the soup of the day, both priced at £2.50.

Review of the food

A review visit at around 2pm on a Sunday found the beef birria toastie, the most expensive item at £7.50, served with tomato soup. The toastie contained slow-cooked beef, Oaxaca-style cheese, and a rich beef dipping broth, delivering a satisfying cheese pull. The soup was hot but lacked the flavour of tinned tomato soup. Dips, including hot honey, roasted garlic aioli, and truffle mayo, are available for £1.50.

Future plans

The team has hinted at expansion if demand continues. The reviewer plans to return, particularly for the late night service and the mac toastie, calling The Toast Office a great addition to the city.
