The branch, located at 4 Tweedale, High Street inside the TG Jones store, is one of many affected by the company's restructuring. Documents on the Post Office website explain: 'As you may already be aware following the restructuring plan announcement by our retail partner TG Jones, some Post Office branches inside their stores will close. Regrettably, Fort William Post Office branch is affected by this restructuring and is due to close on Saturday 22 August 2026.'
Local residents have expressed concern, with many sharing worries on the Fort William Inverlochy and Torlundy Community Council Facebook page. A petition to save the branch has garnered more than 800 signatures out of a maximum 1,000. The petition notes that Angus MacDonald MP and Andrew Baxter MSP have approached TG Jones and Post Office Ltd for more information.

Petitioners describe the Fort William Post Office as 'much more than somewhere to send letters and parcels,' offering services including banking, passport applications, vehicle tax, travel insurance, and bill payments. Locals argue these services are not available together at other nearby branches. The Post Office suggests alternative sites: the Corpach branch, 4.3 miles away, and Spean Bridge Post Office, roughly 9.5 miles away, both offering a range of services.
TG Jones restructuring background
TG Jones, which rebranded all 480 former WHSmith stores in 2025 after being purchased from investment firm Modella Capital, is in the midst of a major restructuring.
