Former Tottenham and Netherlands goalkeeper Michel Vorm has built a business empire since retiring from football in 2020, co-owning a barbershop in his native Utrecht and investing in a major diamond company.
The 42-year-old, who played in the 2010 World Cup final and was on the bench for Tottenham's 2019 Champions League final defeat to Liverpool, spent six years at Spurs, predominantly as an understudy to Hugo Lloris.
Barbershop and sports bar venture
Vorm co-owns Maesons barbershop in Utrecht, which offers more than traditional haircutting. The establishment also boasts a sports bar and offers manicures for men.
Vorm told the BBC: "It's more than a barber shop. We have a sports bar. You can have a manicure." The shop's Instagram profile describes itself as "the Ultimate and all-inclusive experience Barbershop, Sportsbar and Manicures."
Social media posts reveal the clientele includes numerous Arsenal players, among them striker Viktor Gyokeres. When asked which footballer's hairstyles he most appreciated, Vorm highlighted a former Tottenham colleague, remarking: "There are some nice haircuts but Toby Alderweireld is always good."
Diamond investment
The barbershop is just one strand of Vorm's commercial portfolio. He has also entered the precious stones and jewellery sector, collaborating with footballers along the way.
He revealed to football.london in 2025: "I'm an investor for one of the biggest diamond companies in Europe. It's called Gassan. We do a lot of [footballers] in Holland. [And] we provide jewellery, watches for a lot of players in the Premier League."
Gassan, established in 1945, serves as the official timekeeper for 14 Dutch football clubs, including PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord, while Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch has served as an ambassador for the company.
Playing career
Vorm began his professional career at Utrecht in 2005, with an early loan stint at Den Bosch. He moved to Swansea City in 2011, racking up nearly 100 appearances for the Welsh club.
His transfer to Spurs came in 2014, though he was unable to dislodge Lloris as first-choice goalkeeper. Nevertheless, Vorm enjoyed notable moments, featuring in matches against Inter Milan and PSV Eindhoven during Tottenham's run to the 2019 Champions League final. He was on the bench for the final defeat to Liverpool in Madrid.
He departed at the end of that campaign, before returning on a free transfer months later after Lloris sustained an injury. Vorm subsequently hung up his gloves at the end of the 2019/20 season, aged 37.
The goalkeeper, who earned 15 caps for the Netherlands and was on the bench for the 2010 World Cup final against Spain, said: "I am grateful to have been able to play for all these clubs and I am honoured to have been able to represent my country in international tournaments. I am immensely grateful to be a part of such a great history."
