A new clubhouse is set to be built at Denton West Cricket Club, replacing the current 'outdated' building. The redevelopment plans have been approved by Tameside council, paving the way for a modern, two-storey pavilion on the same site as the existing clubhouse.
Plans for the New Clubhouse
The proposed building will feature a club lounge, players' lounge, servery, kitchen, cellar, accessible WC, and an accessible changing room on the ground floor. The first floor will house additional changing rooms and a viewing terrace overlooking the cricket pitch. The clubhouse, approximately 40 years old, is no longer fit for purpose, according to the club, which has a membership of over 400 people.
Alongside the main pavilion, plans include a replacement scoring hut and improvements to the existing car park, creating 34 parking bays. The project aims to address issues such as poor spatial layout, limited changing provision, inadequate storage, and inefficiencies in the building fabric and services.
Community Impact
Planning documents state: “The existing pavilion, although well-used, is outdated, inefficient and no longer capable of supporting the club’s current membership, matchday crowds or community functions.” The redevelopment is designed to future-proof the club as a community asset, which already hosts annual events like a bonfire night fireworks display and other community activities throughout the year.
The approval from Tameside council allows construction to commence, marking a significant step for the Windsor Road sports club.
