Dad Buys £6 Coat, Finds Surprise in Pocket

A father and his young son had been searching for the perfect leather jacket for months. Their quest ended at a charity shop, where they found a bargain that came with an unexpected bonus.

The Hunt for the Perfect Jacket

The pair visited a Goodwill store in Flagstaff, Arizona, hoping to find the elusive jacket. The son had been looking for months, often leaving empty-handed. But this time, luck was on their side.

The father shared the story on Reddit in 2022, which recently resurfaced. He wrote: 'My son has been on the search for the perfect leather jacket for months now. Every Goodwill we go to he wanders off looking for the perfect leather jacket and comes up empty handed or it's just not quite right.'

While on vacation, they stopped at their favorite Goodwill. The son soon ran over, shouting, 'Papa! Papa! I found the one! I found the one!' The jacket cost $7.99 (about £5.50). The father added, 'He even said I changed his life.'

A Surprise in the Pocket

After buying the jacket, they tucked it in the boot and continued their holiday. At their accommodation, the son immediately tried on the jacket and ran upstairs to admire himself in the mirror. Moments later, he yelled, 'PAPA! PAPA! I found credit cards in my jacket!'

The father recalled: 'I was thinking WTF and he comes running down and shows me four gift cards with $10 values on them and I'll be damned they are all loaded! $40 in Subway gift cards!'

The son excitedly offered to buy everyone dinner, and the father was thrilled not to have to cook.

Online Reactions

The heartwarming story resonated with many online. One user commented, 'That is a very cool jacket, too.' Another said, 'Papa is way cooler though.' A third shared a similar experience: 'I once thrifted a leather jacket for $7 that had $13 in the pocket, congrats, that is awesome.'

One user wrote: 'Most wholesome story, ever! Remind me of mine when they were that age. At 8 they lived thrifting and selecting things they loved. Got tears in my eyes, they're now nearly 15.'
