Independent Vietnamese venue Coco Tang will open in the former Spinningfields home of celebrity hotspot SakkuSamba, on Bridge Street.
The new concept will consist of a cafe, restaurant and cocktail club, and follows the original Coco Tang site in Nottingham, which has received positive reviews since opening in 2008. The unit previously housed Artisan from 2013 until 2018, and SakkuSamba until it closed in 2024.
Day and night concepts
During the day, the venue will feature its 'distinctive take on Vietnamese cuisine, cocktails, coffee and culture', with speciality drinks and fresh pastries and desserts made by the in-house team.
At night, the space will evolve to represent other diverse cultures within East Asia, drawing influence from the speakeasies of Hong Kong, the cocktail bars of Tokyo, the street bars of Thailand and the late-night atmosphere of Seoul, brought together through music, vibes and drinks.
Menu and design
Set to open in Autumn, the restaurant's menu will celebrate Vietnam's culinary heritage through traditional recipes and contemporary interpretations using fresh ingredients, with a focus on sharing.
Furniture, decor and artwork sourced from Vietnam and handcrafted by Vietnamese artisans will be incorporated into the venue's design and aesthetic.
Family statement
"Coco Tang has always been about much more than food," the family behind the restaurant said. "It's about the feeling of being welcomed, gathering around a table, sharing stories and enjoying those small moments that make an experience memorable."
"We can't wait to open our doors this Autumn to introduce Manchester to our take on Vietnamese hospitality."
An opening date for Coco Tang has not been announced.
