Co-op's Kate McCrae named SGF vice president

The Scottish Grocers Federation (SGF) has announced that Co-op's operations director, Kate McCrae, will become the next vice president of its National Executive board.

McCrae takes up the role on 18 November at the SGF Annual Conference 2026. She replaces the current vice president, BP's central operations director, Andrew Kenney, who will become SGF president for the next two years.

Experience and Responsibilities

McCrae has more than 25 years of experience leading large-scale, customer-facing organisations. Her responsibilities as operations director cover Co-op's store network and 42,000 colleagues, alongside areas including operational performance, quick commerce, and format and optimisation.

Dr Pete Cheema OBE, chief executive of the Scottish Grocers' Federation, said: "I am absolutely delighted that Kate has agreed to become SGF's next vice president."

"Bringing tremendous experience, energy and credibility to the position. Kate understands retail from the shop floor through to the very highest levels of strategic and operational leadership."

Leadership Transition

McCrae said: "I'm truly honoured to be appointed as SGF vice president and would like to thank Pete, Andy and the board for their support."

"Convenience retail is an industry that I am incredibly passionate about, and I'm proud to have the opportunity to represent a sector that plays such an important role in the lives of customers and communities every day."

Kenney said: "I'm delighted to welcome Kate as SGF's next Vice President. Her passion for our sector, extensive operational experience, and commitment to the communities we serve will be a real asset to us all."

First Female Vice President

McCrae's appointment marks a milestone for the SGF, as she becomes the first female vice president. After two years in the role, she will take up the position of first female president of the Federation.
