Clarks has confirmed it will permanently close its branch at Eden Shopping Centre in High Wycombe on Thursday, September 3. The closure ends several years of trading at the site, with signs in the shop windows confirming the news and a closing-down sale offering discounts of up to 50% already launched.
Closing during back-to-school period
The timing means shoppers have just days left to visit the branch, with the closure coming during the busy back-to-school period when many families are buying children's shoes. Customers have expressed disappointment at the news, with some pointing to the growing impact of online shopping on Britain's high streets.
One person said: "Another shop gone, they have been going for years." Another added: "That's what online shopping does, kills the shops in town." A third, who previously worked at the branch, said: "It's a shame really. Another good shop! Used to work there as a store manager."
Clarks thanks customers
Clarks has confirmed the High Wycombe closure and thanked customers who have supported the store. A spokesman said: "Clarks confirms its store in High Wycombe will close in September. We'd like to thank our loyal customers who have shopped with us at our High Wycombe store, and we'll be delighted to continue to serve them with our full range of products online and at our nearby Clarks stores in Beaconsfield, Uxbridge and Reading."
Once the Eden Shopping Centre branch closes, customers will still be able to visit nearby Clarks stores, with the closest located in Beaconsfield. Clarks is one of Britain's best-known footwear brands and dates back to 1825, when it was founded in Street, Somerset. The company currently has hundreds of stores across the UK and sells a range of footwear including trainers, boots, sandals and children's school shoes.
