Cake Stories, a popular coffee shop on the outskirts of Newcastle, will close its doors at Hoults Yard on Friday, September 18, but the business will continue through its bakery operations.
The owners confirmed the closure in a statement on Instagram, saying: 'After five years at the Clock Tower in Hoults Yard, our coffee shop will be closing its doors on Friday 18th September.'
Loyal customers react
The statement continued: 'It's been such a pleasure to be part of this community. We've made so many lovely memories here, and we've been lucky to have some truly gorgeous team members over the years, all of whom are moving on to exciting new jobs, and we couldn't be prouder of them.'
After thanking customers for allowing them to 'be part of their own stories... birthdays, catch-ups, commute-fueling and quiet coffee moments,' the team said the bakery will continue to 'go from strength to strength,' supplying hundreds of coffee shops, restaurants, garden centres, and delis across the UK.
Business continues
Customers expressed their disappointment in comments on the announcement. One follower wrote: 'This is heartbreaking news but I'll still be looking for cake stories cakes everywhere! Sending all my love to everyone.' Another said: 'Oh no. I'm so sorry to hear this. You've been my favourite coffee shop for a while and you'll be missed.'
The cafe, known for its 'delicious' bakes, has earned loyal customers at its Hoults Yard home, located not in the city centre but within the Newcastle area. The closure leaves less than two weeks for regulars to visit before the shop shuts.
