Bridesworld Liverpool, a family-run wedding dress shop on County Road, Walton, will close on Wednesday, July 15, after 44 years in business. The independent store, which opened in 1983, has served three generations of brides and is a well-known fixture on one of North Liverpool's busiest shopping streets.
Three generations of family ownership
The shop, which stocks wedding dresses, bridesmaid gowns, communion and occasion wear, announced the closure in a statement, calling it an “incredibly difficult decision.” The business said: “After 44 wonderful years and three generations, we have made the incredibly difficult decision to close our doors on 15th July. This has not been an easy decision.”
“Over the past 44 years, we've had the privilege of helping generations of brides and families, getting to know so many wonderful people who have become friends along the way. We are deeply grateful for every visit, every purchase, every recommendation, and every kind word of support you've given us throughout the years.”
Impact on the community
The closure marks the end of an era for Walton, where Bridesworld has been a constant presence since 1983. The business added: “Your loyalty has meant more to us than we could ever express. As we close this chapter, we leave with countless treasured memories and sincere appreciation for everyone who has been part of our journey. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for allowing Bridesworld Liverpool to be part of your special moments for the past 44 years.”
Another bridal shop closing in Liverpool
The news follows the earlier announcement that Copplestones Bridal, an award-winning boutique on Sir Thomas Street in Liverpool city centre, will close on Friday, July 31, after nearly 20 years. The shop opened in September 2008 and cited increased costs as the reason for the “difficult and heartfelt” decision. A closing down sale has seen many gowns sold, but with 90 wedding dresses remaining, Copplestones is now offering discounts of up to 80% on gowns, veils and accessories, with dresses available from £99.
Manager Tracy Tollitt, 59, from Anfield, said: “Everything is just too expensive these days. People are buying online now, and it's been that way for a while. Business hasn’t been good so we expected the closure but it's like that across the industry. It’s a hard industry to be in right now - it’s sad really. We’ve all been in the industry a long time and we will likely stay in it after this - it is what we know and love.”
Tollitt added: “It was booming when we all started, but over the years, the internet has wrecked it. The likes of SHEIN are hard to compete with, so we are heartbroken. But the main thing is we’ve not let anyone down, we are still keeping our promises to the brides. We aren’t running away, we are staying here to help the brides with any questions and alterations they want.”
