A journalist has discovered a £14.99 Boots perfume that she claims rivals her £112 Jo Malone Rose Blush Cologne. Rachel Pugh, Head of Fashion and Beauty Affiliates for Regional Titles, tested the Jawhara Sultan Rose Eau de Parfum and found it to be a compelling alternative for summer.
Comparison of Scents
Pugh notes that Sultan Rose is not a direct dupe but offers a distinct interpretation of rose. While Jo Malone's Rose Blush is a breezy, fruity-floral cologne, Sultan Rose is an intense, woody, and spicy Middle Eastern-style rose oud. Pugh, who prefers spicier fragrances, found Sultan Rose to be a perfect summer alternative.
According to the brand, the perfume opens with warm saffron accord and Akigalawood, leading to an elegant heart of majestic rose accord and powdery peony. A delicate base of vanilla incense adds subtle sweetness, reminiscent of an Arabian rose garden.
Performance and Value
At £14.99, Pugh expected the fragrance to be understated but found it considerably more potent than anticipated. It requires more frequent top-ups than the Jo Malone cologne, but at the price point, she is happy to spritz generously.
Pugh also recommends the Sweet Dates variant from the same range, which she describes as an ambery, fruity Eau de Parfum. It features sweet vanilla and sharp raspberry, luscious date accord, and earthy patchouli, with a base of caramelised amber and cedarwood. She compares it favorably to Lush's Sticky Dates bodyspray (£29), noting it is less overwhelmingly sweet and more refined for summer evenings.
