B&M is selling the Blaupunkt 7 Fin Oil-Filled Radiator 1500W for £39, describing it as “the quick and easy solution for a cosy home”. The portable heater is £20 cheaper than the virtually identical Russell Hobbs 7 Fin Oil-Filled Heater, which costs £59 at Dunelm.
With energy bills consistently rising and the Ofgem price cap increase from October 1 adding four percent to bills, heating an entire home is not always cost-effective. A plug-in, portable electric heater can heat one space at a time, potentially being more energy-efficient and useful in an emergency when the heating goes out.
Features and Design
The heater is designed to be “powerful” and “effective”, suitable for spaces up to 20m2. It uses seven oil-filled fins to distribute heat evenly and is powered by 1500W. It comes with three heat settings and an adjustable thermostat that provides “instant control” of the heating output.
Its portable, compact design means it can be used in home office spaces, the living room, and bedrooms. The device has a “clean” and “sleek” design that can complement modern interior decor, along with a carry handle and wheels for easy transportation. A top-over safety switch provides peace of mind when the heater is on. According to the product description, the heater provides a “silent operation”.
Comparison and Running Costs
When compared to the Russell Hobbs model at Dunelm, both devices look virtually identical and have the same features. At £20 less, the B&M device might be the one bargain hunters opt for. However, Dunelm's product description claims the Russell Hobbs model operates at a running cost of around 33p per hour, while no running costs were provided for the B&M device, which operates at the same power usage.
With winter on the horizon and following a hot summer with multiple heatwaves, the “heat the human not the home” rule may help save money over the next few months. B&M is stocking a range of products to keep cosy for less, including the new Blaupunkt Log Effect Electric Stove priced at £45. This stove, with classic styling, brass-style decorative handles, and a “lifelike” flame display, was designed to replicate the ambience of a cosy, crackling fire. It was recently compared to a similar Dunelm option that was £35 more expensive.
