B&M to open seven new stores before Christmas in expansion push
B&M opens seven new stores before Christmas

B&M has confirmed it will open seven new stores within the next four weeks as part of a major expansion drive ahead of Christmas. The new locations include sites in Colchester, Kingswood, Manchester, Stirling, Merseyside and Essex.

The announcement follows the opening of a new outlet in Newtown, Wales, on November 7. The 22,000 square foot shop underwent a significant refurbishment before its grand opening.

New store openings confirmed

B&M, originally known as B. & M. Bargains, is a British variety store chain that sells branded products at discounted prices. It operates close to 1,300 stores across the UK and France, stocking household names such as Cadbury, Kellogg's, Heinz and Coca-Cola at prices lower than standard supermarkets, achieved through direct sourcing and an "Everyday Low Price" business model.

The chain has been in the headlines this week in connection with the collapse of retail giant Poundland, which is facing problems. B&M is understood to have made offers for parts of that business.

Confidence despite profit warning

The openings reflect increased confidence in the chain, which issued a profit warning in January. B&M said it had ramped up efforts to reduce unwanted stock through hefty discounts and was "confident the actions we are taking can restore sustainable like-for-like growth at B&M UK over the next 12 to 18 months".

The group's "back to basics" plan, launched in October 2025, had seen it sharpen its price offer, including price reductions across the board, while also significantly reducing its product range in numerous categories amid efforts to simplify operations and reduce costs.
