B&M has cut the price of its Blaupunkt Three Bar Oscillating Halogen Heater from £24 to £20, giving households an affordable way to warm individual rooms this autumn without switching on the central heating.
Running the 1200W device costs between 10.44p and 31.33p per hour depending on the heat setting selected, based on the current average UK Ofgem Energy Price Cap standard variable electricity rate of 26.11p per kWh.
How much does it cost to run?
Using just one bar at 400W costs slightly over 10p each hour, while the middle 800W option runs at roughly 21p hourly. At maximum power, the heater costs around 31p per hour.
Financial experts, including Martin Lewis, recommend targeted heating as one of the smartest ways to control energy expenditure throughout winter. The Blaupunkt unit provides precisely that at remarkably modest running costs.
How the heater works
Halogen heaters are recognised as exceptionally efficient for delivering immediate, targeted warmth. Unlike conventional fan heaters, which heat the surrounding air, halogen bulbs produce infrared radiation that warms objects and individuals positioned before them directly.
The space-saving device measures 36 x 26 x 48cm and weighs 1.3kg. While it isn't intended to replace a full central heating system, B&M claims its budget-friendly option offers a swift, straightforward and affordable addition for home offices, living rooms or bedrooms.

Price cap change and where to buy
From October 1, 2026, the Ofgem price cap will nudge upwards to 26.32p per kWh, pushing the maximum hourly running cost to roughly 31.58p on the highest setting.
Shoppers can browse the full range of heaters on the B&M website, though online purchasing isn't available. To get your hands on one, you'll need to head to your nearest store, with stock availability at local branches checkable using the retailer's online postcode tool.
B&M is also selling a Cosy Shop Waffle Heated Throw in mink for £35. The store says: "There's nothing like a cosy night in. This Waffle Heated Throw is the perfect snuggle companion for cold, winter nights. Heat yourself, not your home."
