Discount retailer B&M has cut the price of its Blaupunkt Three Bar Oscillating Halogen Heater from £24 to £20, offering households a low-cost way to warm individual rooms without turning on the central heating.
The 1200W device costs roughly 31p per hour to run on its maximum setting, based on current Ofgem energy price cap figures. Lower settings reduce the running cost further: a single 400W bar costs just over 10p per hour, while the medium 800W setting comes to about 21p per hour.
How the heater works
Halogen heaters are considered highly efficient because they deliver immediate, direct warmth. Unlike fan heaters that circulate warm air, halogen bulbs emit infrared radiation that heats objects and people directly in front of them.
The heater measures 36 x 26 x 48cm and weighs 1.3kg. B&M says it is not designed to replace a full home heating system, but serves as a quick and affordable supplement for home offices, living rooms or bedrooms.
Running costs and price cap changes
Running the heater costs between 10.44p and 31.33p per hour depending on the selected setting, based on the current average UK Ofgem Energy Price Cap standard variable electricity rate of 26.11p per kWh.
From 1 October 2026, the Ofgem price cap will rise slightly to 26.32p per kWh, pushing the maximum hourly running cost to approximately 31.58p at the highest setting.
Where to buy
Shoppers can browse the full range of heaters on the B&M website, though online ordering is not available. Customers need to visit their nearest store and can check local stock availability using the retailer's online postcode tool.
B&M is also selling a Blaupunkt Plug-In Fan Heater for £15, described by the store as a compact heating solution for smaller spaces that plugs directly into a wall socket with no trailing cables.
