BBC Food expert praises Newcastle café's 'incredible' toastie

BBC Food's Harriet Fisher has praised a small Newcastle café for serving what she called an 'incredible' breakfast sandwich. During a visit to the city, she stopped at the Camera Shop on Collingwood Street and described its Breakfast Toastie as 'delicious' and 'so fresh'.

Local recommendation leads to hidden gem

In a video shared to the BBC Food Instagram grid this week, Fisher was seen asking a local on a run down the Quayside where she should go for breakfast. The person immediately pointed her in the direction of the Camera Shop, championing its 'amazing' pastries and coffees.

The Camera Shop, a small building on Collingwood Street near Revolution, Manahatta and the Vampire Rabbit, has been in Newcastle for years and is known for its loyal regulars. Despite its long history, it remains something of a hidden gem.

Breakfast Toastie wins over BBC expert

On arriving at the shop, Fisher opted for the Breakfast Toastie, which includes streaky bacon, mozzarella, posh ketchup, spicy harissa and roasted tomato. She also praised the staff working there at the time.

One regular, replying to the BBC Food video, quipped: 'Don’t tell everyone about camera shop!! Can barely get in there for my lunch as it is!'
