The Bass & Barrel, a new restaurant and pub in the Scottish seaside town of North Berwick, will open its doors on October 20 and is already accepting bookings.
Operated by award-winning hospitality firm Buzzworks, the venue follows a seven-figure transformation of the former Nether Abbey Hotel. It joins Buzzworks' growing 'House Collection', which includes The Bridge Inn at Linlithgow and The Long House in Kilmarnock.
Open seven days a week, the establishment will serve food from early until late, offering a place for locals to enjoy everything from morning coffee to leisurely lunches and celebratory occasions. The venue has been designed by internationally acclaimed designer Jim Hamilton, with an interior said to combine "relaxed hospitality with timeless, stylish accommodation."
Menu highlights and Scottish produce
The full menu celebrates "quality Scottish produce and coastal flavours," featuring fresh seafood, prime Scotch steaks, pub classics, and family favourites. Standout dishes include a mammoth-sized 'four-person sharing' Sunday roast with all the trimmings, described as "the perfect centrepiece for family and friends." Other highlights include Lamb Shepherd's Pie, Grilled Scottish Langoustines, and the venue's premium fish and chips.
Buzzworks has partnered with trusted suppliers, including North Berwick's Edgefield Craft Butcher, to ensure Scottish produce takes centre stage. The menu will showcase 28-day dry-aged meat and locally sourced lobster, and will change with the seasons.
All-day dining and hotel rooms
The all-day menu also features a "show stopping" chocolate bomb for an indulgent finish, alongside lighter options, sandwiches, cakes, and coffee for quick visits. As a pub, The Bass & Barrel will offer draught beers, local ales, wines, spirits, and cocktails. The venue will continue to operate as a hotel, with 12 rooms upstairs available for coastal visits.
