After six years as a staple of Manchester's city centre bakery scene, Alex's Bakery has closed its Deansgate unit at the Great Northern and is moving to a new location just down the street.
Final Weekend at 225 Deansgate
This weekend, Alex's Bakery served customers for the final time in its unit at 225 Deansgate. The bakery, known for its cupcakes, brownies, and sweet treats, has also been hailed as one of the city's best spots for afternoon tea. Run by owner Alexandra Furlan, the cafe was often packed with queues at weekends and served as a popular lunch-time stop-off with its meal deals.
Moving to Unit 275
The bakery first announced the move in June, with 'new shop coming soon' signs decorating the unit, promising fans they would not be going far. Alex's Bakery is moving from unit 255 to 275, and the store promised that 'something big is coming' in its initial announcement. The post was flooded with comments wishing the team the best of luck and sharing excitement for the new location.
Emotional Farewell
This weekend, the bakery shared a post remembering the past six years in their Deansgate unit. The post read: 'It feels like yesterday we first opened the doors at 225 Deansgate. Since then, these four walls have seen more than we could ever have imagined. The happiest days, the hardest days, the uncertainty of lockdowns, takeaway windows, sleepless nights, tears, laughter, celebrations, and moments we'll never forget. Staff came and went. Customers became friends. Children who came in for cupcakes are now growing up. Thousands of cakes left this kitchen, but the memories we made we'll never forget.'
The post continued: 'This little shop gave us everything. It taught us resilience, patience, gratitude and never to give up, even when things felt impossible. And as the lights went off...so did the final chapter of 225 Deansgate. But this isn't goodbye. It's simply the end of one beautiful story and the beginning of another.' The bakery thanked customers and everyone who has been part of the journey over the years for their support, saying: 'Thank you to every single person who has been part of our journey, you made this place what it was.'
Grand Re-opening
The shop closed on July 20 and will also be closed on July 21, with the grand re-opening taking place on Wednesday, July 22. The bakery told followers that they can't wait to spend the next six years with them at the new location.
