Aldi Announces Sweeter, Bigger British Raspberries for Summer
Aldi's Sweeter, Bigger British Raspberries Hit Stores

Aldi has announced a significant update for its fresh raspberries, transitioning to 100% British-grown fruit across all UK stores this summer. The supermarket says customers can expect sweeter and bigger raspberries, thanks to a cooler spring that has slowed ripening and improved flavour development.

Transition to British Raspberries

As the British raspberry season begins, Aldi is stocking exclusively homegrown raspberries. The retailer forecasts a 15% year-on-year increase in raspberry sales, having sold 1,900 tonnes – nearly 12 million punnets – between June and September last year. Aldi works closely with British growers to ensure top-quality produce at competitive prices.

Expert Comments

Julie Ashfield, Chief Commercial Officer at Aldi UK, said: "We expect our raspberries to taste better than ever this season, showcasing the fantastic quality of British produce available across Aldi stores. We're proud to work with British farmers and growers across the country while helping customers enjoy more great British produce."

To further support British growers, Aldi has partnered with farmer and television personality Harriet Cowan, who will champion British-grown fruit and vegetables and encourage shoppers to buy more UK-produced items.

Shopper Awareness

Research commissioned by Aldi found that while 80% of shoppers say supporting British farmers matters to them, only 27% actively check whether fruit and vegetables are homegrown. Many shoppers are unaware that vegetables like cucumbers, courgettes, and aubergines can be cultivated in the UK.

Harriet Cowan said: "I'm passionate about highlighting the brilliant work British farmers do to bring high-quality food to our tables. I've loved teaming up with Aldi to learn more about the fruit and veg we grow here in the UK and to shine a light on what's in season."

Why Raspberries Are a Healthy Choice

Raspberries are low in calories but rich in dietary fibre, vitamin C, and antioxidants. Their high fibre content and low glycemic index help regulate blood sugar levels. They pair well with sweet options like chocolate, vanilla, and yoghurt, as well as nuts, citrus fruits, and even savoury dishes with herbs or mild cheeses.
