Aldi to open two new Greater Manchester stores before Christmas

German supermarket chain Aldi has announced it will open 24 new stores across the UK in the coming months, with two new Greater Manchester stores set to open before Christmas 2026. One new store will open on Orrell Road (Abbey Lakes) in Orrell, while the store on Stockport Road in Hattersley welcomed shoppers for the first time on Thursday 1 October.

Store relocations and new openings

Aldi, which currently operates 1,092 stores, will also relocate three of its existing stores over the next 10 weeks. One of these is the store on Scot Lane in Wigan, which will move to Frith Street, off the Saddle junction. The building vacated by Aldi on Scot Lane will become a branch of PureGym.

The full list of locations set to welcome a new Aldi store before the end of 2026 is as follows: Bishop's Cleeve, Gloucestershire; Malton, North Yorkshire; Orpington, Greater London; Ashford, Kent; Newport, South Wales; Newport, Isle of Wight; Basildon, Essex; Matlock, Derbyshire; Wimborne, Dorset; Stepney Green, London; Orrell, Greater Manchester; Dumbarton, West Dunbartonshire; Stourport-on-Severn, Worcestershire; Epsom, Surrey; Wellington, Somerset; Hattersley, Greater Manchester; Hanworth, Greater London; Willesden, London; Longbridge, West Midlands; Waterlooville, Hampshire; Egremont, Cumbria; Lower Gornal, West Midlands; Driffield, East Yorkshire; and Chatham, Kent.

Company performance and market share

Giles Hurley, Chief Executive Officer for Aldi UK and Ireland, said: "We're working hard to make good food more affordable for every family – cutting prices on everyday essentials, signing long-term supplier agreements to help increase home-grown production, and continuing to bring affordable groceries to even more communities through our store opening programme." He added: "This is why more customers are buying more products at Aldi – our relentless focus on simple, everyday low prices and award-winning quality."

The announcement coincides with the supermarket's latest annual results, which saw turnover increase 5% to a record £19bn in the 12 months to 31 December 2025. Latest industry figures estimate its share of the UK grocery market at 10.6%. A spokesperson for Aldi said sales were being driven by more customers buying more products in more stores, thanks to its 'relentless focus on simple, everyday low prices'.
