Aldi has announced plans to open 16 new stores across the UK over the coming months as part of its continued expansion. With more than 1,080 stores nationwide, the discount grocer has long-term ambitions to operate 1,500 stores across the country.
New Store Locations
The new locations are spread across England and Wales, including Watford and Hoxton in London, Hattersley in Greater Manchester, and Balsall Common in the West Midlands. Wales will receive new Aldi stores in Port Talbot and Newport.
This announcement follows the opening of Aldi’s Salford Quays store last month in Greater Manchester and forms part of the retailer’s planned £370 million investment in new stores during 2026.
Commitment to Value and Pay
Jonathan Neale, managing director of national real estate at Aldi UK, said: “At Aldi, we’re committed to making high-quality, affordable food accessible to everyone, which is why we continue to invest in expanding our store network across the UK. Our £370 million investment in new stores this year will help us bring Aldi’s unbeatable value to even more communities, supporting local economies through our industry-leading pay for colleagues.”
Aldi has also been investing in staff pay alongside its expansion. Store assistants are now paid up to £15.20 per hour, following a £42 million investment in pay during 2026. The assistant pay rate starts at £13.50 per hour nationally, rising to £14.47 based on length of service, while colleagues within the M25 receive £14.88 per hour, increasing to £15.20 with service.
