Aldi launches £1.99 draught seal to keep homes warm and cut bills

Aldi is launching a £1.99 window and door seal this weekend (Sunday, October 18) designed to help households block chilly draughts and keep homes warmer during the colder season. The self-adhesive strip is part of a range of draught-proofing and energy-saving items that will be available in all UK stores.

Easy-to-fit heat retention solutions

The discount retailer's new selection aims to help households stay warm and comfortable throughout winter. These affordable solutions are simple to fit without requiring a tradesperson and may reduce energy costs, according to energy providers.

In its online description, Aldi said: "Keep your home warmer and more comfortable with simple, easy-to-fit solutions designed to help reduce draughts, dust and heat loss. Ideal for windows [and] doors, these energy-saving essentials help improve insulation and keep the cold out."

How the Workzone Window and Door Seal works

The Workzone Window and Door Seal is a self-adhesive draught blocker created to prevent unwanted air movement around openings in your property. The complete strip features a D-shaped profile, with this hollow core enabling the rubber foam to compress readily when a door or window shuts, sealing irregular gaps firmly while still allowing the door or window to close properly.

By forming an airtight seal, it stops chilly outdoor draughts from creeping in and prevents warm air generated by your heating system from leaking out. In principle, this should enable householders to keep the warmth they're paying for from their central heating for longer.

The yellow strip being removed in the photograph shows a robust adhesive backing. This enables it to be applied straight onto glass, timber, or uPVC window and door frames without requiring additional tools, adhesive, or fixings.

Alternatives and energy savings

Because Aldi's stock changes constantly, you can easily find online standalone alternatives from reliable brands at popular DIY retailers including Screwfix and Dunelm. Stores like B&Q also sell the Exitex E Strip Self-Adhesive Rubber Seal.

The retailer is stocking options in white and black. Firms like Octopus Energy and British Gas suggest that effective draught exclusion can help households cut their gas consumption.

On Octopus Energy's 'energy efficiency tips' webpage, the energy supplier said: "For gaps around the edges of doors, use self-adhesive draught proofing strips. Foam strips are the cheapest option (starting price of £4.50) but may not be long-lasting. Other options include plastic or metal draught proofing strips."

The full range of products launches in shops on Sunday, together with other heating and household items designed to make winter more bearable. The SpecialBuy sale includes the return of the Ambiano Dehumidifier (£44.99) as well as two heating units (from £19.99). The Sunday sale also includes a selection of warm clothing for men, women and children from £2.99.
