Aldi has announced £7 million plans for a new Merseyside store. The discount retailer confirmed it has submitted a planning application to Wirral Council for a store at Wirral Waters in Seacombe.
Site Details
The proposed site is a brownfield plot off Birkenhead Road, currently used as a lorry park. Aldi's plans would transform it into a modern food store, representing a multi-million pound investment in the local economy.
Store Features
The new store would include 84 parking spaces and cycle hoops to encourage cycling. It is expected to create up to 40 full-time jobs, with Aldi committing to hiring locally.
Community Support
Aldi's consultation found that 97% of 500 respondents supported the development. The store aims to serve the growing population at Wirral Waters, where thousands of new homes are planned.
Statements
An Aldi spokesperson said: "We are delighted to have submitted our plans for a new Aldi food store in Wirral Waters. We'd like to thank the local community for their engagement and enthusiasm."
Richard Mawdsley, development director for Wirral Waters at Peel Waters, added: "Aldi's plans represent another important milestone in the ongoing transformation of Wirral Waters. Delivering a successful, sustainable neighbourhood is about creating places where people can live, work, study and access services."
