Aldi has confirmed it will close all 1,080 of its stores for three days over the festive period. The closures will take place on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year's Day, with shops reopening on December 27 and January 2.
The retailer said the reason behind the closures was to give “store colleagues the chance to enjoy more time with family and friends” during the festive period.

Customers have been urged to check the Aldi Store Finder for the opening hours at their local store. Over the festive period, stores can extend hours, so opening times can vary.
Rachel Geary, communications director at Aldi UK, said: “Christmas is a special time for our customers, but it is also one of the busiest periods of the year for our teams.
“Our colleagues work incredibly hard to ensure customers can pick up everything they need ahead of the big day.
“We never take that effort for granted. Closing our stores on Boxing Day is one way of saying thank you and giving colleagues a proper chance to rest, switch off and spend more time with the people closest to them.”
Investment programme continues
The announcement follows Aldi revealing the next 25 locations that will benefit from a £300 million investment in upgrades. Five stores will also be extended as part of the investment programme.
Changes will vary by store, with selected locations benefiting from upgrades to bakery, health and beauty, and fresh food areas. Stores in London, Liverpool, Aberdeen, Sunderland, and Bedford are among those receiving refurbishments and other improvements, including more energy-efficient technology.
The programme will also introduce more sustainable features, including energy-efficient fridge doors and natural refrigerants designed to help reduce carbon emissions.
