Major supermarket Aldi has announced it will open 16 new stores across the UK over the coming months, with two of these being in Greater Manchester. This is the latest batch of planned openings for the budget grocery chain, which revealed plans for 40 new stores earlier this year. The recently announced openings form part of Aldi's long-term plans to operate 1,500 stores across the UK, with the retailer expecting to invest £370 million in new stores this year.
Locations of New Stores
Aldi said it will open stores in locations across the UK, including sites in London, South Wales, Yorkshire, the West Midlands and the Isle of Wight. The supermarket also said it will open two new stores across Greater Manchester in the coming months, in Wigan and Hattersley.

Investment and Commitment
Commenting on the new stores, Jonathan Neale, Managing Director of National Real Estate at Aldi UK, said: "At Aldi, we’re committed to making high-quality, affordable food accessible to everyone, which is why we continue to invest in expanding our store network across the UK. Our £370 million investment in new stores this year will help us bring Aldi’s unbeatable value to even more communities, supporting local economies through our industry-leading pay for colleagues."
The new stores will also follow on from Aldi opening a supermarket in Salford Quays last month. The new store took over the former Morrisons store on Trafford Road after Salford council approved a planning application in October.
