Aldi is launching a new pair of trainers that cost under £20 and are designed to keep feet warm in autumn and winter, with a look that resembles pricier high-end versions. The footwear arrives as part of the supermarket's upcoming Middle Aisle refresh, with Special Buy deals available from Thursday, November 12.
Christmas At Home Special Buys
The update focuses on 'Christmas At Home' products, including festive onesies, jumpers, socks, pyjamas and trainers. The new trainers are part of Aldi's Avenue line and come in two colours - brown or dark grey - with various sizes to choose from.
The product description reads: "Keep your feet warm and comfortable all season long with these fleece-lined trainers. Combining everyday style with a soft, cosy lining, they're perfect for chilly days on the go."
Budget-Friendly Alternatives
Aldi's new Avenue Adults' Trainers cost £14.99. The brown pair, in particular, looks similar at a glance to a pair by the upmarket shoe brand Gabor and even to a pair by the designer label Tommy Hilfiger.
The budget-friendly pair may impress shoppers who like the look of Gabor's Beige Suede Aloe Rolling Soft Trainers, which cost £102 online, or Tommy Hilfiger's Newport Suede Trainers, which cost £84 at John Lewis, but would rather stick to a budget.
Comparing the Designs
The product description for the Gabor shoes on the Begg Shoes website reads: "Gabor Aloe Rolling Soft women's trainers in beige suede offer supreme everyday comfort. These trainers feature a 45mm wedge heel and removable insoles for a personalised fit. With their stylish design and H-Extra Wide fit, they are perfect for all-day wear and walking."
As for the Tommy Hilfiger pair, a statement on the John Lewis website reads: "Suede lace-up trainers by Tommy Hilfiger. The soft upper and sturdy rubber sole give you reliable comfort for everyday plans."
All shoes share similar features in colour, design and overall aesthetic. However, there are still some major differences, besides price. Aldi's trainers are designed to be worn in cold weather, due to the fleece lining, while the other two can be worn all year round.
The Gabor trainers come with gold detailing on the back, and the ventilation holes wrap around the front of the shoe more. Meanwhile, the Tommy Hilfiger trainers are slightly lighter in colour, and the rubber sole isn't as rigid as Aldi's.
For a shopper who likes the look of the Gabor and Tommy Hilfiger trainers but would rather stick to a budget, Aldi's winter-themed versions could be a more affordable alternative. Stock will be limited, though, as the supermarket says: "Once it's gone, it's gone".
