The Aberdeen sportswear brand A.K Positive opened its highly anticipated new store on Saturday, August 1, at 308 George Street. The launch followed weeks of teasing, with the brand asking locals "can you keep a secret" last month. In July, The Daily Record reported that the site's blacked-out windows prevented shoppers from seeing inside, offering only peep holes that encouraged them to "look closer."
The grand opening was marked by a high-energy event featuring an in-store DJ and a performance from local musician Erin Singer. Outside, a black and gold balloon arch drew attention to the entrance and welcomed new customers.
The new location provides a larger space than the original flagship, which sits a few doors away at 517 George Street.
What shoppers will find inside
Inside, the store carries the "premium streetwear" that has earned the brand a dedicated following. This includes custom-made tracksuits, oversized hoodies and co-ord sets. According to the A.K Positive website, the clothing combines individual pieces and full collections, all made from "heavyweight, premium fabrics", with customization options available for a "unique" touch.
Fitness shoppers can also pick up supplements, including a range of protein powders in flavours such as caramel and chocolate, alongside pre-workout energy powders, creatine and vitamin capsules, all said to offer "science-backed fuel."
Local popularity and expansion
The opening was met with excitement from locals, with many flocking to see the new venture. The brand is said to be "trusted by 5,000 customers across six countries." Originally launched online, its products are now available in 10 local Aberdeen stores. The website also states that the brand is "backed by influencer collabs, repeat buyers, and collections crafted with care."
A.K Positive has built a strong reputation among Aberdonians, averaging a perfect five-star rating on Google reviews, where the brand has become loved for its "high quality" clothing and "careful craftsmanship."
A boost for Aberdeen's high street
The store's opening comes amid a positive period for the Aberdeen high street, with numerous independent businesses recently appearing on Union Street. These include a new wellness café and plans for a "social-dining experience" called Allegro, expected to open soon. In addition, the Michelin-recognised team behind the city's Amuse diner is set to launch a Mediterranean restaurant called Mezzo in October.
Earlier this year, a "first of its kind" Noodle Library opened in the city centre, bringing the popular Korean self-service-style diner to Aberdeen for the first time. Daily Record's Rachel Williams visited to build her own ramen.
