Airdrie boss Rankin lands Sam Fisher as second summer signing

Airdrieonians manager John Rankin has secured his second summer signing, bringing in defender Sam Fisher from Dunfermline Athletic. The 24-year-old centre-back joins forward Matty Yates, who signed late last month, as the Diamonds bolster their squad ahead of the new season.

Fisher's attributes praised

Rankin highlighted Fisher's hunger and aggression as key reasons for the move to Monklands. The defender brings significant SPFL experience from spells at Dundee, Forfar Athletic, East Kilbride, Kelty Hearts, and Stenhousemuir.

Speaking to the club website, Rankin said: "We're delighted to get Sam on board. He's hungry and aggressive, and that's part of the reason I wanted him here. He's a good professional, focused, and ready to go. We look forward to working with him and getting started in a couple of weeks."

Fisher expressed his excitement: "I'm buzzing to get it all done. It's been a few weeks in the making, so I'm just buzzing to get it over the line and get started. After speaking to the manager, I'm really looking forward to the season, and I'm sure we'll do well."

Contract extensions for quartet

In addition to the new signing, Airdrie have secured contract extensions for four players. Midfielders Cole and Dylan Williams, striker Divine Iserhienrhien, and goalkeeper Cade Melrose have all signed new deals.

The outfield trio spent last season on loan at Edinburgh City, where their performances earned them a return to Airdrie. Rankin commented: "I've been impressed by what I've seen of the lads in footage from Edinburgh City, and the feedback on them has been excellent. We're delighted to get them tied down. Cole and Dylan have great technique and composure in midfield, while Divine offers pace and power up front. All three gained valuable first-team experience on loan, and now it's up to them to push for a place here."

On 21-year-old Melrose, Rankin added: "Cade has proven his ability already, so it's good to get him signed up and add another piece of the jigsaw. We've already seen what a promising young keeper he is, and with decent experience behind him, this is a great platform for him to continue his development."
