Gilcomston Bar, a popular city centre bar located on the historic Gilcomston Steps in Aberdeen, has announced it will close for good on Sunday, July 12, 2026. The news has prompted an outpouring of sadness from regulars, with one describing the closure as 'heartbreaking'.

Sudden Closure Confirmed on Social Media

The bar, which has been under its latest ownership for just 14 months, broke the news on Facebook this week. The owners explained that the building has been put up for sale by the landlord, forcing them to make the difficult decision to shut down. In their statement, they expressed gratitude to customers and staff for their support.

According to the owners, the final day of trading will be Sunday, July 12, and they plan to host a closing-down party with reduced prices on food and drinks. 'Our final Sunday Funday promises to be our biggest and best yet,' they wrote.

Community Reaction: 'Heartbreaking'

Locals have reacted with sadness on social media. Heather Mckenzie Lepkowski commented: 'After all the hard work you put in you made this bar live again, it's heartbreaking that you have to close but we understand why. Love you both so much you worked so hard and it has paid off.'

In their Facebook statement, the owners said: 'After an incredible 14 months, the time has come for us to say goodbye. It is with mixed emotions that we announce that Gilcomston Bar will be closing its doors, with our final trading day being Sunday, July 12, 2026. As the building has been put up for sale by the owner, we've made the difficult decision to close.'

They continued: 'We can't thank our amazing customers enough for the support, laughter, friendships, and unforgettable memories you've given us over the past 14 months. You've made Gilcomston Bar so much more than just a pub—you've made it a community, and for that we'll be forever grateful. A huge thank you also goes to all of our entertainment team, singers, musicians, DJs, and performers who have worked so hard to keep the atmosphere alive and make every event so special.'

Farewell Party Planned

The owners invited everyone to join them for one final weekend of celebrations. 'Let's raise a glass, share a laugh, and make a few more memories before we close our doors for the last time,' they wrote.
