A £50 hot brush has impressed a writer with fine, flat hair, delivering glossy, bouncy waves in 20 minutes and rivaling her £180 ghd Rise tool.
Bethan Shufflebotham, a Senior Shopping Writer, tested the Flikt Thermal Hot Brush, reduced from £75 to £50, after years of trying various styling tools on her notoriously fine, flat and straight hair. She had previously ranked the ghd Rise hot brush among her all-time favourites, even buying one for her mother as a Christmas gift, but noted its £179 price tag was not the most budget-friendly beauty purchase.
Key differences between the two brushes
The Flikt Thermal Hot Brush is designed to boost volume, smooth hair and tackle frizz, styling and smoothing simultaneously to remove the need for both straighteners and curling irons. Its most notable advantage over the ghd is heat control: the ghd Rise operates at a single optimal styling temperature of 185°C, while the Flikt offers adjustable heat from 80°C to 220°C, displayed on an LCD screen.
This flexibility allows lower settings for fine hair and higher settings for thicker or coarse hair. However, Shufflebotham noted the buttons are easily knocked, and she inadvertently reduced the heat below the required level without realising. The Flikt also has a slightly larger 38mm barrel compared to the Rise's 32mm, though she noticed little discernible difference in the finished results.
Styling results and verdict
Having used the Rise extensively, Shufflebotham had a reliable point of comparison and said the Flikt surpassed her expectations considerably. She finished styling her hair in 20 minutes, achieving a bouncy, effortless wave. Her hair looked glossy and sleek thanks to the Flikt's ceramic glaze barrel, which distributes heat evenly while minimising frizz, and its 30 Million+ Negative Ions for visibly smoother, shinier hair. The Anti-Scald Nylon Bristles safeguard the scalp and glide through hair without snagging.
The only other drawback, aside from the easily knocked buttons, is the cord length: at 2.5m, it falls slightly short of the Rise's 2.7m, giving marginally less freedom of movement while styling.
At £50, the Flikt Thermal Hot Brush is genuinely impressive, delivering exactly the finish she had hoped for, with the adjustable temperature setting particularly valued for her fine hair. For a limited time, shoppers can get the Flikt Thermal Hot Brush for £50.
