£2 Home Bargains cloth leaves windows streak-free

Lifestyle reporter Sophie Harris says a green Minky Window & Glass Cloth, bought at Home Bargains for around £2, leaves windows streak-free and has become a permanent fixture in her cleaning cupboard.

A reusable cloth that needs little else

Harris says she has relied on the cloth for years, using it with nothing more than water, though she tends to reach for a window spray, particularly on the shower door. The microfibre texture draws dirt and grime away from the surface, and she finds it handy for everyday fingerprints, marks and smudges on windows and glass doors.

One of the greatest benefits, she says, is that it leaves no streaks when used properly. It is also reusable; she has put it through the wash countless times and it remains in its original condition.

Product details and a budget spray pairing

Harris has spotted the cloth in numerous supermarkets over the years, but picked hers up from Home Bargains for around £2. The product description reads: "The cloth is made from millions of tightly woven high-density microfibres, which quickly remove dirt and grease from windows and other glass surfaces."

It adds: "Its generous size makes light work of large surface areas, leaving a crystal clear finish every time. Its powerful high-density microfibre structure gives up to seven times more cleaning power compared to standard microfibre cloths."

For those wishing to pair a spray with the cloth, Harris recommends Elbow Grease's Glass Cleaner at just £1, which she says tackles grease, grime and fingerprints with minimal effort.

Other window-cleaning hacks

Harris also notes other window-cleaning hacks, including black tea, which is reputed to dissolve dirt and grime due to its tannic acid content. While it proved highly effective, it was somewhat time-consuming because the tea had to cool before applying. White vinegar and newspaper are further alternatives, with newspaper serving as an excellent substitute for microfibre cloths.
