Wirral Council has agreed to alter the licence of Heswall Golf Club, with several key changes approved by the Licensing Sub-Committee. The alterations allow alcohol to be sold earlier and across the entire site, subject to conditions.
Earlier Whisky Sales
Previously, alcohol could not be served until 11am. The committee was told this caused issues when a member made a hole-in-one before 11am and could not have a celebratory whisky shot. The time has now been changed to 10am.
Expanded Licensed Area
The licensed area has been widened from the clubhouse to the whole site. This means alcohol can now be sold at the half-way house after the 12th hole, where previously only soft drinks and snacks were available. Members had regularly requested alcoholic drinks there and on the course. The change also allows the club's buggy to sell alcoholic drinks to players on the course, though the buggy is rarely used except for large events. The move also futureproofs the club in case the clubhouse is relocated due to a future re-routing of the course.
Conditions and Exclusions
The Wirral Way trail, which runs through the course, is not covered by the licence as it belongs to the council. The committee added a condition that alcohol sales outside the clubhouse must end at 5pm. Inside the clubhouse, alcohol can be sold until midnight from Sundays to Wednesdays and until 1am from Thursdays to Saturdays.
