Tesco and Lidl Urgent Recall: Ham Products Contaminated with Listeria
Tesco and Lidl Recall Ham Over Listeria Risk (03.07.2026)

Tesco and Lidl have issued urgent food recall notices for multiple ham products due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium that can cause severe illness. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) published a formal recall notice after O'Brien Fine Foods identified the risk in products sold in Northern Ireland.

Recalled Products and Batch Details

The affected items include Brady Family Crumb Irish Ham (80g, batch codes 235880 and 235765, use by July 16, 2026), Deluxe Honey Roast Carved Irish Ham (130g, batch code 235473, use by July 16, 2026), and Deluxe Triple Oak Smoked Carved Irish Ham (130g, batch code 235461, use by July 16, 2026).

The FSA stated: "The possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes in the products listed above. Symptoms caused by Listeria monocytogenes can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea." In rare cases, the infection can lead to serious complications like meningitis, particularly for vulnerable groups.

Health Risks and Vulnerable Groups

According to the NHS, listeriosis is typically contracted through contaminated food. Those over 65, pregnant women, babies under one month old, and people with weakened immune systems are at higher risk. The FSA advised: "If you have bought the above products, do not eat them. Instead, return them to where you bought them from for a full refund."

Notices will be displayed at point of sale in all retail outlets stocking the affected products. Lidl apologized for the inconvenience and urged customers to return products with or without a receipt. Customers in the Republic of Ireland can contact 019203010, while those in Northern Ireland can call 0289568488.

What to Do If You Have Symptoms

For most people, listeriosis is mild and clears up within days. However, the NHS advises contacting 111 if you are pregnant, have a weakened immune system, or are concerned about your baby's health. Seek emergency care (A&E or 999) for severe headache with stiff neck, seizures, sudden confusion, extreme drowsiness, sensitivity to bright lights, or a rash that does not fade under a glass.
