A premises licence has been granted to a Stirling city centre convenience store, allowing the sale of alcohol from Monday to Sunday, 10am until 10pm.
Stirling International Food and Wine Ltd applied to the District of Stirling Licensing Board, which considered the request at their meeting on Tuesday.
The Board heard that the premises is a medium-sized two-storey retail unit in an area mixing commercial businesses and residential properties. The store operates as a modern community convenience store selling groceries and other non-alcohol products. The off-sales capacity is 21.99 square metres.
No objections or representations were received from Police Scotland, the Licensing Standards Officer, or any other party. The applicants provided an operating plan, disabled access certificate, and planning certificate.
Company representative Gordon Emslie said: “The premises is a two-storey building located in the centre of the town. My clients purchased the property at auction over a year ago and it operates as a convenience store. It was previously a betting office which had been closed for a number of years.
“As with any neighbourhood convenience store, customers expect a full range of goods and services including alcohol and aim to meet that expectation. We are grateful to the board for granting occasional licences in the past few months and these have been operated without incident.
“My clients bring a number of years retail experience and have worked in the Scottish borders and Falkirk and Perth. They are highly experienced and well-respected operators and have high standards across their sites. They have home deliveries by store-only employees, no third parties are used.”
Mr Emslie added that photographic ID must be produced by the person ordering alcohol, and this would be “robustly” enforced.
