Rangers are facing a striker crisis after scans revealed the full extent of Youssef Chermiti's knee injury, just 48 hours after the club rejected a record £22 million bid from Galatasaray for the Portuguese forward. The injury means the Ibrox side have lost the chance to more than double the fee they paid Everton 12 months ago, and now need to reinvest in a replacement.
Double blow for McInnes
The news compounds a difficult start to the season for new boss Derek McInnes, with Rangers winless in three games. There is further bad news with Tuur Rommens facing up to two months on the sidelines with a groin injury.
McInnes must turn around a 2-1 first-leg deficit against Polish side Jagiellonia Bialystok in the Europa League, followed by Sunday's Premier Sports Cup clash against holders St Mirren at Ibrox.
Chairman Andrew Cavenagh had predicted up to five new signings, but that number may need to increase unless McInnes promotes from within.
Transfer targets and exits
Hugo Siquet, a right back in the mould of Trent Alexander-Arnold, has been linked, but Club Brugge have no interest in selling. Kosta Nedeljkovic, the £8m Aston Villa right back, is a loan target if the Siquet move fails.
Couhaib Driouech is set to be announced after completing his medical in Manchester, a £7m signing from PSV Eindhoven. Ryan One of Sheffield United is not being pursued, while Bojan Miovski may play a more prominent role after watching from the stand as Chermiti was injured.
Jayden Meghoma, on loan from Brentford last season, is back on the radar to cover for Rommens. James Penrice, a former Hearts left back, is in talks with AEK Athens over a loan with an option to buy, though the Greeks want a permanent deal.
Mohamed Diomande is close to a £4.5 million move to newly-promoted Turkish side Corum, where he will join former Hearts player Alexandros Kyziridis.
