Man Utd agree fresh loan deal for Andre Onana

Manchester United have agreed a fresh loan deal with Trabzonspor for goalkeeper Andre Onana, the £47m signing from Inter Milan three years ago. Onana was sent out on loan last summer after a difficult spell at Old Trafford and spent the 2025-26 season with the Turkish side, making 33 appearances and helping them win the Turkish Cup.

Carrick decision forces Onana exit

Onana was due to return to Carrington for pre-season training next month, but manager Michael Carrick has informed him he is not part of his plans for the upcoming season. Talks have now concluded for Onana to rejoin Trabzonspor on loan, with United receiving a loan fee. The deal does not currently include an option to buy.

Despite earlier reports that Onana hoped to return to Manchester and fight for his place, there has been no realistic prospect of him playing regularly for United again. The Cameroon international was originally signed as the long-term successor to David de Gea, but that role has now been filled by Senne Lammens, who joined from Royal Antwerp last summer and impressed in his first Premier League season.

United target new backup goalkeeper

United are also looking to sign another backup goalkeeper this summer, as last season’s No. 2 Altay Bayindir is expected to leave. Among the names linked are Leeds United’s Karl Darlow and Wolves’ Sam Johnstone, who came through the youth ranks at United. Scotland international Angus Gunn is also on the radar, available on a free transfer after just one year at Nottingham Forest.

United also have highly-rated Radek Vitek on their books, returning after a successful loan spell with Bristol City. However, the 23-year-old is likely to leave as he wants first-team football, with newly-promoted Hull City interested.
